Rookie Coach

Two months ago, a very good friend of mine phoned me and talked about baseball. He asked me to coach the baseball team to which our sons belong. It was quite a surprise for me, because I did not have any coaching experience ever.
At first I was convinced that I should not accept the offer primarily because I was never a coach, and second, the team doesn’t look so good. They have been losing for a long time now, and it doesn’t look like things are going to change. My friend somehow convinced me to be a coach. Besides, my son also belongs to the team. I accepted the offer and then thought of ways to fire up the team members.
The next day, I went to the mall and got sports promotional giveaways for the kids. I had our team name and logo imprinted on these items and handed them out during the next practice. The kids were very happy and appreciated the promotional sports giveaways. I saw the effect of what I gave them during the practice. They were so excited to go to the next game. We didn’t win the next game. But on a positive note, I noticed that the team didn’t mind the loss. They were more excited to play and have fun than to win the game.
The season ended last week, and we only had two wins since I got the coaching post. Next season, I plan to start the practice by giving away promotional sports balls to the players of the team. Perhaps with these products, I can start the season better.
